Applying
Online
Application and Required Documents Due December 15, 2005.
Please note
that all paper applications have been phased out. The online
application has two parts.
PART I:
To the UCLA Graduate Division
The
Application
for Graduate Admission is to be filled out through the UCLA Graduate
Division website. This is designated for the submission of basic
information, including your academic history and the program to which you
wish to apply, as well as the $60 non-refundable application fee.
PART II: To
the Women's Studies Programs
The
following material is to be printed and mailed directly to the Women's Studies
Programs.
Please note you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to access these
material. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for FREE from the Adobe
website.
- Supplemental
Information - Part B as indicated online
This includes information regarding your objectives, current class
enrollments that may not appear on transcripts, as well as the names of
your recommendation writers.
- Statement
of Purpose - Part C as indicated online
This includes a cover sheet which includes questions regarding your
achievements and activities
- Three
Letters of Recommendation, in sealed envelopes with the recommender's
signature across the back of the envelopes. Print 3 copies of the Letter
of Recommendation Form. The top part of the form is to be
completed by the applicant and given to the recommender to include their
letter and evaluation. These letters may be mailed to us directly by the
recommender or mailed to us as part of the packet by the applicant.
Regardless of whom mails the letters, they must be sealed and MUST HAVE
THE SIGNATURE OF THE RECOMMENDER ACROSS THE SEAL.
- Fellowship
Application - Also available from the graduate division, please
apply for all scholarships you feel are applicable.
- Two
official copies of transcripts from each institution attended are
required. Transcript
Request Forms are available to be printed and submitted to your
college or university registrar(s). Similar to the Letters of
Recommendation, the transcripts may be sent directly from the
institution or may be included as part of the packet from the applicant.
Regardless of whom mails the transcripts, they must be sealed and MUST
HAVE THE OFFICIAL MARKINGS ACROSS THE SEAL (this may be a signature or a
sticker or stamp depending on the institution).
- GRE
scores (not older than 5 years). GRE Scores must be sent
directly from ETS. If you did not request they be sent to us when you
took the test, you must contact them and see that they are sent. Because
it generally takes some time for these scores to reach us, many students
elect to include photocopies of their personal score print-out with
their packets. While these scores are unofficial, they at least provide
the reviewers with some information in the event that your GRE scores
are delayed in arriving. Additional
test scores can be ordered from ETS. The institutional code
for UCLA is R4837. Use 2299 (Social Sciences - Other) as the
Department/Major Field Code.
- a CV or
resume which includes your current address, telephone number, email,
your educational experience, and your work experience.
- Women's
Studies supplementary essay (in addition to the Statement of
Purpose). The Women's
Studies Supplementary Essay should tell the admissions committee about
your background in and proposed focus in Women's Studies. It should
also give the committee information about your work and professional
experience. The
essay should be no more than 3 double-spaced pages and should address
the following:
- How
did you become interested in Women's Studies?
- What
work or academic experiences prompted you to apply for a graduate
degree in Women's Studies?
- In
what area of Women's Studies do you plan to specialize?
- What
are your career goals?

Writing
Sample. Term papers or other written materials (not to exceed 25
pages in length) expressing your academic or professional interests.
- Cross
Reference Sheet Complete this form only if names on your
transcripts are different from the name you have given on the
application.
- TOEFL
scores (required of international applicants whose first language is
not English). Official
Score Reports can be ordered from ETS. The institution code
for UCLA is 4837. The department code is 80 (Other Social
Sciences).
- Confidential
Financial Statement (for international applicants only)
